+12 because for some reason Fevre Dream was not on my list of books left to read

-The Invisible Ring, The Black Powder War, The Far Side of the World, Love and Honor, Words of Radiance

So these are the books I’m taking into the new year. I started this year with 166 books left to read which is good from from 300+. So hopefully this year I can reach at least less than 100 books left to read.

Okay, This Is Seriously My Last Bookhaul Of 2014

859901866232

I got two of Princess Academy one for my cousin and me. The first cover is the edition both of them are in. I don’t really care for the cover.

I’m really into Shannon Hale because of Ever After High. I hope I like it because I read the back and was like ummm… :/ questioning it. Here’s the synopsis:

Miri lives on a mountain where, for generations, her ancestors have quarried stone and lived a simple life. Then word comes that the king’s priests have divined her small village the home of the future princess. In a year’s time, the prince himself will come and choose his bride from among the girls of the village. The king’s ministers set up an academy on the mountain, and every teenage girl must attend and learn how to become a princess.

Miri soon finds herself confronted with a harsh academy mistress, bitter competition amongst the girls, and her own conflicting desires to be chosen and win the heart of her childhood best friend. But when bandits seek out the academy to kidnap the future princess, Miri must rally the girls together and use a power unique to the mountain dwellers to save herself and her classmates.

Also, even more questionable is that I read it when I was kid but don’t remember what happened. Then I went to another store that sells books that had the Ever After High books. I was looking at the books and all the characters on the front cover, they are so interesting. Ugh, this book is probably not going to be as good as the Ever After High books. The synopsis is not bad but shrug its not giving me I need to read this right now vibes.

2015 New Years Resolutions (+ Some Books I Want to Read in 2015)

18323836122519

1. Read 75% Diverse Books

How I will achieve this:

A) Planning. I want to create a list with at least 25 books to read to start off. Then I want to create a bunch of smaller lists of books in different genres.

B) Subscribing/following more people who read diverse books

C) Go beyond my books left to read list.

641918014288

2. Read more in horror/fantasy/mystery etc.

How I will achieve it: Focusing on areas that I like so I can read in these genres.

Japanese fiction for horror,

Middle grade for fantasy (and/or comics )

606598330069

3. Finish/Update on series

How I will achieve it: In the case of Parasyte it’s not limiting myself to own list or school library.  I don’t think it is at the public library either so I am going to have to search for it.

75079447740772

4. Get past the young adult fiction crutch

I have to be on top of things so I won’t catch myself not knowing what to read. I also want to create a list just in case I find myself pursing the juvenile fiction section at my library.

68217186752233

5. More graphic novels/comics

For some reason I don’t put comics in my equation when thinking I need to read.  I need to get past picking up a novel before picking up a comic.

6.  Pick LESS questionable books

How I will achieve this:

A) Reading more authors I liked in the past or just having good books around so I don’t go into desperation random pick up books mode.

B) Having a plan so I’m not riding free reign

21557520829029

7. (Whatever number of books left to read I have) read/dnf some of them

How I will achieve this: By either reading, dnfing, or just really accessing if the book is for me before I waste time on it. I’m not putting heavy focus on this because I think my books left to read list is a barrier in my reading. My books left to read are neither as diverse or have as much variety as I’m looking for. I think a list that shows some good books my own books would be good to make so if I can’t read outside reading I have something. Also, I want to make sure that I focus more on finishing books I like than dnfing ones I don’t like.

2042466718757876

8. Prepare myself to have less time.

If I know I have less time I can preparing myself to waste less time on questionable books. I think I can be some sort of focused.

9. Don’t put pressure on myself to read

Basically, I don’t want to read for the sake of reading. I think I danced over and around this line this year. I can achieve this by having options such as just not reading.

Non-book related

The Sims 3 Plumbs

10.  Support my other hobbies more!

I lost many things this year one of those being my other hobbies. I don’t want to get in the predicament that I did this year. I got in desperate mode because I knew/felt that reading was my only outlet. I didn’t have the time to do my other hobbies. I don’t want that to happen in 2015.

Basically, to achieve all these things I need to have diligence, planning, and not desperation.

Bookhaul 12/26/14

I’ve been finding a lot of sci-fi and romance books recently. I hope that I can get more into these genres in a good way. I’ve been finding middle grade fiction too but I have to think about my cousin(s). Do I want to take this book away from them who will more than likely like the books more than me? Most of the time I don’t feel that the books are something I would be into.

Sci-Fi

I’ve been finding a lot of sci-fi recently.

394365394364

Nope, I did not find the first one. I like these covers they feel artsy.

13426200

I only read the tag line and was like I’m in. I just now read the synopsis on the back which I’m cool with except the rape part. Ugh, I hope it does not get into the showing rape just to let you know how dark and gritty the world is. I actually hope they skip the rape part altogether but that is not going to happen *heavy ugh and sigh*

For My Brother/ Me

1645282

He likes this author and has already read it but doesn’t own it.

For My Cousin(s)/Other People

I found a new cousin to feed her habit of reading. I have to see what reading level she is before giving her any books.

Questionably for my cousins:

208837

Mr. Poppers Penguins this is for me but I’m questioning if I should keep it or give it to my cousin.

Definitely for my cousins:

179565223403438703

I read  another  book in the warrior series a while back and it was not my cup of tea. In the case of Fearless and Avalon High I can’t remember if I got her these ones yet. You know of course I found the fifth book in the Vampire Academy series and did not find any of the others.

I love the cover for Spring Pearl so much. Random interesting fact my brother read Sharon M. Draper books when he was younger. So circle reading, yeah.

Romance

Now that I am reconciling with romance I am finding more books in the romance genre. There were many issues that made me cut my relationship short with romance. I will get into more of these things when I finally post my romance starter kit post. One of the main things that is annoying to me in romance (and many other genres) is the lack of variety/uniqueness in jobs and characters. Hoping that these books don’t suck.

Update and Conclusion

I got more books that I probably did not need to. +11 books added to my books left to read list. If I don’t just dnf some of them before even adding it to my list. I’m not really reading right now because this is my usual month when I just don’t read. It’s not a reading slump or anything I just don’t read that much or at all during this month. I have another bookhaul that I haven’t posted yet because I am waiting on my extra holiday gifts. That one is going to be awesome, it is a combination of my birthday and holiday bookish gifts.  Anyway, I will probably not post anything else until the next year so happy holidays and happy new year.

Bookhaul {First Chapter Test} 12/12/14

Fiction

1618

I kind of like this book so far but question how much. Is the interest I have enough? I feel like I could put this book down and be okay with not knowing what will happen.  That and I feel like the main character is going to do something that will make me not like this book. I don’t know.DNF?

Romance

10697546

I like the premise and think the book is okay so far. I read enough to tell that this is worth finishing.

6584134

Like:  Right away it surprised me  and made me laugh.

Dislike: The nine rules are lame. I feel that the rules could have been more outrageous and shown more into the underground world of England. The rules seem like it is  going to lead this book on average romance novel trajectory.

Horror (DNF All Of Them)

15850468

Ugh, the days when authors make their first chapters actually interesting has gone.

18770398

I feel like this book is for people who don’t read horror because this book was not scary.  I only read a chapter and looked at some of the pictures, but no. The little bit that was supposed to be horror at the beginning was eh.  I am going to be honest and say that I questioned this book before even getting it. I thought that there was a strong possibility that I would not like this. It was cheap so I just got it. I felt no sense of interest and the main character had some actions and thoughts that were questionable. I didn’t like the main characters narration and how they set up the start of the mystery, boring. Are people more impressed with the format than the actual story? If this is true this is just like Ms. Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children. I’m so shocked this is going to be made into a movie (sarcasm).

Did Not Read But Think They Have A Strong Possibility of Being Good (Well 2/3 Anyway)

1351222997576317332218

I found the second book in the Stormlight Archive series for cheap which was really surprising. I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing. I was not impressed with Mistborn so I question this book. I will give the first book a  chapter test later then go from there.

Overall Comments

I want to get into the romance genre so bad. I think with the recent books I have been reading lately that has been actually happening. I think it is amazing that I’m getting more traction right now with romance than horror.

December-Jan Plans

1. Read only books I own.

Main books I want to finish are The Martian and Dark Genesis.

2082902918160022

I’m half way through with Dark Genesis (thumbs up by the way). I am 3% into The Martian because I got into Dark Genesis heavily.

2.  Read comics and 2-3 novels in between.

I want to read a Japanese horror novel so bad but I don’t own any. *sigh* I’ll riffle through my [lame] horror novels I have or just read comics and call it a day.

3. Go through my goodreads list and purge/categorize the books.

4. Make my resolutions for next year (already started)

5. Make list on how I can achieve those goals (already started)

6. Purge/categorize books on books left to read list

It needs to be done. If I could get to less than 100 that would be awesome.

7. Plan themes and stuff for next year.
